Great Times at Silver Dollar City & the Branson Belle Showboat in Southern Missouri

~ PrimitiveGypsy received free tickets for these attractions. We were not compensated in any other way ~

It's hard to find fun things to do in the fall, winter and even the early spring here in the MidWest. Most things are closed because the weather is unpredictable. So instead our kids spend time inside glued to electronics. I don't know about you, but this drives me nuts. I'm always looking for something fun to do outside the house. This year we decided to take a short trip to Branson to visit Silver Dollar City and The Showboat Branson Belle.

We started out on a Sunday with a trip to Silver Dollar City. I recommend going another day besides Sunday. They open later, 1pm on the day we went (I assume for their employees and families to be able to go to church and spend time with their families) and closed at 9pm and 8 hours during a peak time was just not enough. Sadly because of Don's work schedule, we had to go on a Sunday. We chose to not pay for parking so we had to park farther away, but they offer a shuttle back and forth from each lot. That was a lifesaver at the end of the evening. We chose to hustle and walk to the park because we didn't want to wait, getting our exercise up a large flight of stairs. It wasn't bad at all but if you have any health problems, are pregnant or have someone elderly with you I would pay for preferred parking. When you arrive at the front there is a store, guest relations, etc and you go through a gate to a small walkway to security. They will check your bags as you go in. This part went quickly and we were in the park in no time. My first impressions of the park itself were really good. We chose to go right hoping to get to our chosen food choice around dinner. It didn't happen but I was still glad we went that way. When you go to the right you end up on what looks like an old period street with little shops, food, even a blacksmith. I couldn't skip that store. They had the coolest roses they'd made. Most of this area is stores and shows but there are a few rides that blend in with the period decor. This was my favorite part of the park. I could have spent the whole day wandering in and out of the shops. But....we have little kids so on we go...

This is most certainly a theme park for families. It reminded me a lot of Knott's Berry Farm in California (if you've been there) because it's geared towards kids and families and not teenagers like most theme parks. Yes, they have roller coasters but no that's not the majority of the park. The majority of the ride areas were mainly riding for the littles. We had our 3, 4 and 12 year old along. We went on the big swings, called the Magnificent Wave Carousel which had Thomas smiling from ear to ear, and a bunch of little rides. The littles just loved this and probably would have never left. We followed that up with a good adult ride for Don and I while Thomas, Niko, and Teddy watched us in awe. When we got off all we heard was that was scary looking. Yeah, a little but we were certainly riding high afterward. Right there they also have a measuring station and your little ones can get a bracelet with their height and your contact information on it. We went 3 weeks ago and Teddy still has on his bracelet. I must have asked a million times to cut it off, but he loved our day at Silver Dollar City and I think it may have to fall off instead. We basically spent the majority of our day letting the kids ride all the rides. Niko's favorite ride was The Grand Exposition roller coaster which is a small wooden coaster that almost anyone can ride. Teddys favorite ride was Lucky's Dizzy Dogs which features Lucky the Dalmation and you bounce around a fire hydrant in a circle. The whole area around this ride is a big Fire House, with a station and firehouse themed rides. There was a number of water and other rides closed for the season but there was still plenty to see and do.

The attraction of going to Silver Dollar City in the winter is the huge light festival. They start in the summer stringing lights and they told us they literally finish the day before they open for the Holiday Season. They have up over 6.5 million lights, over 100 decorated trees, Christmas shows, and a light parade. You can take your kids to meet Santa Claus and Rudolph and the Reindeer. We skipped this because we went on a short day but stepped inside and these looked like they were decorated to the hilt. There is also a train ride to a live singing Nativity that the kids really enjoyed. The train ride travels past many of the light exhibits that you may not otherwise see as well through the crowds of people.

Our favorite part of any day is food time and we enjoyed greatly our food from the Fry Bread Company and Flossie's Fried Fancies at dinner time. We were glad we chose this side of the park for dinner because it was not as crowded and a good relaxing break from the noise and crowds. We enjoyed a few of the shops and then headed over to the train and Christmas in Midtown lighted area. We ended the day back at the front of the park as the tree lighting was going on. All in all, we had a fantastic day and even with the crowds I would highly recommend this trip to Silver Dollar City any time of year, but especially at the Holidays. My kids are super excited to go back and we are contemplating season passes for 2018.

The next weekend we planned our trip to the Branson Belle Showboat. We walked down the hiking trail from the Tablerock Lake visitor center so the kids could see the Showboat and took my Ma for her Birthday. The decorations were tastefully done and while less than at Silver Dollar City, I appreciated them more as they were simple and understated. We took Baby Susannah with us as we knew she would enjoy the singing (and the food). You get to board the Showboat pretty quickly and once on they take a photo of your party before you go inside and get shown to your seats. You can buy these photos and a book later if you'd like. You then get sat at long tables that go across the boat so everyone can see the stage. You are then free to get up, go outside, visit the small shop, and take photos. Since we went in December we went to the Celebrate Christmas show which was a cute singing Christmas show with dancing, music and, magic. Baby Susannah was fascinated with the entire thing and even stayed awake the entire time. The food was really good, you get two types of meat, a side dish, bread, and tea or lemonade, and then followed up with dessert. They play music during dinner and then you have a break to cruise about the boat and stand out watching Tablerock Lake before the main show. It was a nice afternoon. They also had a morning Pajamas with Santa cruise that looked like tons of fun for the littles.

I want to end with that all the employees both at the park and the showboat were exceptionally friendly, cheery and polite. You could tell they really enjoyed their job and that was very refreshing. We really had a blast at Silver Dollar City and the Showboat was a fun trip. If you're in the area definitely spend a day at Silver Dollar City! ~Fun Fall/Winter Trip~ National Crafts & Cowboy Festival & An Old Time Christmas at Silver Dollar City

~PrimitiveGypsy is being compensated with tickets in exchange for this post, all thoughts and reviews are our own and not influenced in any way.~ I am always looking for fun new things to do with my family every year, aren't you? We go to the Pumpkin Patch, we check out Christmas lights but this year I really wanted to go out of the box and do something we hadn't done before. So this year we are heading to Branson, MO for the National Crafts and Cowboy Festival and the Old Time Christmas at Silver Dollar City! We've been wanting to go for awhile now but the kids were little and we wanted them to remember and enjoy. Paired with these festivals this will be fun for the entire family.

Are you wanting to see Silver Dollar City and check out the festivals for yourself? Here is some great information.

For fall, Silver Dollar City presents the National Crafts & Cowboy Festival, featuring some of the nation's finest craftsmen and authentic cowboys. The festival presents a Wild West Show with trick riders, ropers and a world-champion Native American Hoop dancer; Western music; a barn dance, and 125 visiting craftsmen. Best of Missouri Hands juried artists demonstrate their art and fall harvest foods are served up September 13 - October 28 at the Branson, Missouri theme park.

The Home of American Craftsmanship presents the nation's largest festival of demonstrating craftsmen, with entertainment and activities saluting the Great American Cowboy. There are over 125 visiting craftsmen from around the country coming to demonstrate their art, including Best of Missouri Hands juried artists, all joining Silver Dollar City's 100 demonstrating craftsmen. Silver Dollar City's Wild West Show features trick riders, Native American dance with 8-time World Champion Native American Hoop Dancer Nakotah LaRance, comedy canines, and trick roper and bullwhip artist A.J. Silver. Legendary Western actor and watercolor artist Buck Taylor will host the "Buck Taylor's Cowboy Emporium," featuring a variety of Western crafts. Plus they will have Chuck Wagon & Food Network Chef Kent Rollins and Extreme Mustangs featured in the Red Gold courtyard. Also included is a Western Barn Dance presenting kick-up-your-heels fun, with a live band. There will be Western music with groups including The Malpass Brothers, The Home Rangers, Belinda Gail and Kristyn Harris, 2016 Western Music Association Entertainer of the Year. New this year will be the nation's pioneer culinary heritage coming to life with campfire cooking and cowboy cuisine, including Cowboy Beef Stew and Dutch Oven Desserts.

Here is some history behind this festival. Silver Dollar City began the fall crafts festival tradition in 1963, bringing in visiting craftsmen in addition to the park's growing resident crafts colony, with the goal of showcasing the makers along with the finished artwork. More than half a century later, a unique feature still is that all visiting crafters, as with the park's own, demonstrate their work so guests see the process, the skill and the creativity of true craftsmanship. This became the nation's largest festival of demonstrating craftsmen. The focus on authentic craftsmanship was one of the reasons the U.S. Congress in 2010 proclaimed Silver Dollar City the "Home of American Craftsmanship." In addition to craftsmen, Silver Dollar City added features with another American icon several years ago, the cowboy, to carry on the festival as The National Crafts & Cowboy Festival.

Are you preparing your Christmas Spirit? You may enjoy the Holiday and Christmas Festival this winter.

The Old Time Christmas festival will be adding a huge new area this year: Christmas in Midtown, with towering light displays 9 stories high, animated figures in lights, and 1.5 million additional lights, bringing the park total to over 6.5 million lights! Christmas in Midtown is the largest single lighting expansion in the past 20 years of this festival. It is one of the nation's most acclaimed Christmas festivals, profiled by USA Today, CNN Travel, The Travel Channel and Good Morning America. The new Christmas in Midtown is a 70,000 sq. ft. area filled with new light displays 9 stories high, including 30 angels, animated reindeer pulling a sleigh, 3 light tunnels, two 40-foot long moving trains, dozens of stars and snowflakes, and a 50-foot tree, all created at Silver Dollar City.

Christmas will include Rudolph's Holly Jolly Christmas Light Parade, led by the most famous reindeer of all, features musical lighted floats with 200,000 lights accompanied by 33 costumed characters, Rudolph's Christmas Town, where kids can meet Rudolph, Clarice and Bumble, also includes activities from Reindeer Games to cookie decorating. It will also include two original musical productions presented with Broadway-style experiences, with elaborate sets and talented casts: It's a Wonderful Life, adapted from the Frank Capra classic, and the acclaimed production A Dickens' Christmas Carol. The Christmas on Main Street light & sound show features the 5-Story Special Effects Christmas Tree with over 350,000 colorful LED lights. Tinker Junior's Toy Shop is an interactive show for kids featuring a 12-foot talking and singing Christmas tree. Kids can also meet Santa in Santa Claus Lane, illuminated in colorful lights. Plus, the festival presents holiday shows, a musical Living Nativity, shows, rides, shopping and new Silver Dollar City dining specialties. Hours and Schedules are HERE.

During An Old Time Christmas, Silver Dollar City is open Thursdays - Sundays, plus Wednesdays Nov. 22 and December 20, and open after Christmas Dec. 26-30. Hours and schedules are HERE.

Healthy Summer Snack with Lebice Popsicle Molds

If you make a purchase off any link on this page Primitive Gypsy will make a small commission. I received these free for my honest and unbiased review.

We have all had those summer days...You know the ones. Mom I'm hot, mom I'm hungry, mom there is nothing good to eat. I am not a fan of processed anything and I don't buy it. But, I also don't feel well most days and am not about to make my kid's fruit pizza without passing out and not functioning the rest of the day. There has to be a better snack. My kids (and I) love ice cream and popsicles but so much of it is so bad for you. What can you do? I remember when I was a kid filling up some ice cube trays with Koolaid and toothpicks. Those lasted about two seconds and tasted disgusting.

My solution fruit and juice popsicles. If you're really feeling creative you can do fruit and yogurt bars. These popsicle molds from Lebice were perfect for curing my kid's cravings. They love fruit but after a month of summer are tired of just a plain ol' apple for a snack. We added some yogurt and caramel here and there but that's always a huge mess with two toddlers and not so easy to clean up. So after I received these, I tried some fun recipes for a refreshing summer treat for me, and for the kids. Make sure when you start that your molds are firmly attached to the tray. Let your kids help to also turn this into a fun project. They can snack while they wait.

Apple Juice Bars-

Apple Juice (Organic or hand pressed if possible. If not water it down.)

Chopped up apples or apple slivers.

Place apples in the bottom of your popsicle mold. Add the juice almost all the way to the top, leave just a smidge of room for the handle.

Freeze

Yogurt & Fruit Bars-

Vanilla Yogurt

Fruit slivers (we like strawberry and kiwi)

Pour a small amount of yogurt, then fruit, then repeat. Again fill almost to the top.

Freeze

Bananarama Fruit Smoothie Bars-

Add juice to your blender (We like cranberry)

Add bananas and pitted cherries to your blender. Blend until liquid.

Again fill almost to the top of your mold.

Freeze

Once frozen you have an awesome tasting, cold, healthy treat. Your little kids will be fascinated, and you will have provided a great homeschooling experiment. Your older children will appreciate having a cold snack on a hot day. The popsicle molds have a tray on the bottom to keep your smaller kids from losing all their popsicles, but the beauty of this snack is, not much sugar or sticky liquid so even if they do spill your not having to give them a bath and run around washing them before they put sticky hands all over your house.

The set is inexpensive and comes with a silicone funnel which was really helpful. It also comes with a cleaning brush, although it could use a slightly longer handle. This is one of the best sets I have received and is much nicer than those silicone sets, or using your ice cube tray. They also clean really easy. Do you want a set of your own? You can buy your own Lebice Popsicle Mold set on Amazon HERE.

~ Giveaway & Review ~ GrubMarket Organic Foods

"Disclosure (in accordance with the FTC’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising”): Many thanks to Propeller Consulting, LLC for providing this prize for the giveaway. Choice of winners and opinions are 100% my own and NOT influenced by monetary compensation. I did receive a sample of the product in exchange for this review and post.

I was so happy when my GrubMarket box arrived in the mail. In our house we adore fruit and since we live in a very rural area it is not always so easy to get it! This was a perfect solution. The box we received was the California Fruit Bounty. I can not tell you how much fun it was to open this up. It was very well packaged, full of paper and tissue and it seemed like it was a never ending box. The fruit just kept coming and coming. We got all sorts of a mix too, from apples to pears and pineapples to avocado.

We were mostly very pleased with this large box of fruit. I adore avocado, and pears are hard to come by here. My husband was thrilled to get dates and the pineapple. We rarely buy them because I am allergic. We had planned on doing a huge fruit salad, but honestly no one wanted to wait. We just sat there and all ate fruit. Sadly quite a few items of fruit were bruised and spoiled the next day. The saddest to me was the pear I had not had one in ages. The pomegranate was also bad. Those few things though did not spoil the box at all and we enjoyed fresh fruit for a couple of days.

GrubMarket does not just have fruit, they have all sorts of different organic foods and fresh foods. They also have health and beauty items, delivered right to your door. The whole website is a yummy basket of food you will love to get and eat. You as my readers can receive 20% off your first order by using code GRUB20 and free shipping on any orders over $59.

About GrubMarket

GrubMarket is all about providing accessibility, by delivering the following key benefits to their stakeholders

Unbeatable prices While many food delivery services and premium grocers cater to high-income earners, GrubMarket is committed to making fresh and delicious food accessible to all people by keeping their prices consistently lower than all comparable grocers.

Convenience Through their reliable operations, GrubMarket is committed to providing people in food deserts (ie. areas without farmers' markets and fresh grocery stores) with access to high-quality, freshly-harvested items that they would typically find at a farmers' market or Whole Foods store. Additionally, they offer free delivery across the U.S. for all orders above $59.

Food Discovery GrubMarket provides a platform for their partnering small farms and vendors to sell their items directly to customers. Many of these food producers have challenges getting shelf space at grocery stores, and/or may not want to pay the upfront costs of hosting farmers' market tables. GrubMarket gives these food producers access to tens of thousands of customers through a robust online marketplace, regardless of the food producers' production scale.

GrubMarket firmly believes that you, your family, and your friends should always have the opportunity to eat well, and that price should never be a barrier between you and healthy, delicious, and freshly-harvested food. They are committed to providing you with the best grocery experience possible, by regularly offering you wholesome foods at wholesale prices. They work with a variety of farms and artisan producers to bring you high-quality foods and other items at prices that are up to 50% OFF what you'd typically find at Whole Foods and other grocers.

~Review~ Very Healthy Spiral Slicer

~I received this for my honest review, all opinions are 100% my own.~

I gotta say we really loved this Very Healthy Spiral Slicer! It is just such a fun product and has a ton of uses. It is a simple design and takes up very little space. You can store it in a small drawer, or cupboard or even on your kitchen counter because you will probably use it often. It is a simple design but works very efficiently. It's a good size to fit in your hand easily and is not too heavy for any age to use. I don't like to cook at all but this was FUN to use!

This has a super sharp blade. It worked super fast and on all different kinds of veggies. My husband loves to use it for onions, potatoes, and carrots. It makes cutting them up a breeze. All you have to do is take off the top and twist while feeding your veggie in. It takes very slight pressure and comes out perfect every time. It's excellent for onion strings, and veggie pastas. We love it for shoestring potatoes also. It is just so easy.

The Very Healthy Spiral Slicer is very easy to clean with the little brush that is included. It will get anything left or stuck right out! It is a handy tool all by itself. I use it to get between utensil handles also. This can basically be brushed, and then rinsed. All if all we just love this slicer. You can get your own Very Healthy Spiral Slicer on Amazon.

~Review~Boardwalk Food Company Beer Bread Mix

~I received this for my honest review, all opinions are 100% my own.~

Ok honestly I couldn't say one bad thing about Boardwalk Food Company Beer Bread Mix if I tried really really hard. Can you see me squinting here? Nope can't think of anything. Boardwalk Food Company offers a few different varieties of mixes. I chose Original and Boy was I happy with it. I am ready to try them all.

Making this bread was so simple. It's literally add beer and mix. That's it...nothing complicated, anyone could make this bread. The smell while it was baking was to die for good. I was ready to eat it the second it came out of the oven. It smelled heavenly!

The Original Beer Bread had a wonderful flavor to it. It was just delightful, with very light hints of beer. The texture of the bread was light and airy. We demolished the bread in minutes. Everyone was begging for more and asking when I could buy it again. Now in my house we eat well and fresh so for ANYONE to ask for a packaged anything was well seriously amazing. Every family member thought the Boardwalk Food Company Beer Bread Mix was to die for and it certainly will become a staple in our household.

The Boardwalk Food Company also offers Cornbread, Lemon Poppy Seed and Rosemary Sea Salt. Go check out the Boardwalk Food Company website.
