Help Your Local Schools and Kids who Live in Rural America!

I receive nothing from this post

I know, I know depressing title. But imagine living in a place 3 hours from a city, with no jobs, no good education, no money, more drugs than people...The depression in some rural schools is real. Imagine being 15 and not having internet, a computer, or access to a decent library? Imagine your parents working 2-3 part time job, sometimes hours away from home. This is what it's like where I live. Our schools are literally falling down and we are working for a miracle. A teacher at the school is asking for a very small amount of help. Just three computers. I don't know about you but I have two computers just for my house, some of these kids have none, or are sharing early 1990's computers between a ton of students.

I don't ask for help often, but this school and others need it. I found this wonderful site called www.donorschoose.org for teachers to ask for help. They show you where every penny goes down to shipping or tax. This particular teacher I am supporting teaches Science. She is one of those teachers that has a ton of heart. She cares about her kids, enough to stay in a poor paying job in the middle of nowhere, and trust me she could be working anywhere she wanted to. Please help support her and her kids. I can tell you some of these kids are so intelligent and just don't have any advantages. Please help to bless them in a small way by going to DonorsChoose and donating $5, $10 or anything. It all helps.

Here is a description of what they need the most.

My Students

Most of my students come from very disadvantaged backgrounds, with no Internet connection at home. We have limited technology at our school, as well. Technology upgrades play a vital role in helping my students stay engaged. Our school is located in a rural area with limited opportunity for jobs. No major industries are in our area, which means that our tax base is very low. Our students and staff know each other on a personal basis because of the small size of our student body.

My Project

I am using Chromebooks to utilize the Google Classroom and integrate technology into my science classes. Students are using this technology to incorporate writing assignments in the study of science and to create oral presentations. Students are also using the Chromebooks to access simulations and educational videos to support classroom instruction. Our students are not given the same opportunities to access technology as other school districts in our country. A good education is the greatest equalizer in our society. Without the proper tools, our students are not receiving the same chance for success.

Thank you just for reading this, because change only takes ONE person. Please go HERE if you want to help!

~Review~ Personalized Children's Book by KD Novelties

~I received this for my honest review, all opinions are 100% my own.~

How fun are personalized books? I just love them and children love hearing the names of loved one's and themselves when your reading to them. So I was thrilled to be able to review a Personalized Children's Book by KD Novelties. These are just so much fun and they offer so many choices.

How does it work? You go to the KD Novelties website and look through all the book options and they have a ton of them. Once you've decided what book you want you will be asked to fill out a form with your child's name, age, hometown, friends or family members names, etc. You may also choose a dedication for your gift. We went with My Birthday Surprise for Teddy's first birthday that is coming up. The book is filled with bright colorful pages. It's hardback and washable which is so helpful with this age. Sticky fingers and books don't mix. It's a great quality book and won't be coming apart or easily ripped!

In the meantime we let his older brother Nikolas check it out for us. Every time we read a name that he knew he would smile so big and repeat it. He has not wanted to put this book down and was very sad when we put it up for Teddy's birthday. Books like this truly grow a love for learning in young children.

Go and check out all the different books that the offer on the KD Novelties website.

~Giveaway~ Whatever Wanda! Shine Bright Kids

~I received this for my honest review, all opinions are 100% my own.~

What a fun book, Whatever Wanda! I just loved the illustrations. My two year old Nikolas jumped as soon as he saw all the ducks on the cover. He has a duck obsession since we moved to Missouri. He just loved all the pictures in it. The whole book is about a Duck Race, you can imagine his delight!

My favorite part is the star that follows Wanda around and shows when her attitude is good or bad. It's such a fun addition to the story. This is a great teaching story about attitude. With the right attitude you will make your day and life great, and you'll be happy. With the wrong attitude you will be miserable and have a bad day. This story teaches your kids all about how just a slight change in attitude can make you and your day the best it can be. I have 8 kids and a few with rotten attitudes as they enter the teen years. So this book hit a chord with me. Life is all about what you make it, and this book encourages you to make it Great!

~About the Book~
Wanda is in serious need of an attitude adjustment! She doesn’t want to accompany her family to the Rubber Duck Days Festival, and once there, she won’t participate in any of the events or join in with her friends. Soon Wanda receives some helpful advice and learns that:

“Sometimes you have to believe something will be great before it actually is. Being positive is a choice that makes everything better, not to mention, a whole lot more fun!”

~About the Author~
Christy Ziglar, financial planner, mother of twins, and niece of legendary motivator and the world’s original optimist, Zig Ziglar, is bringing the same timeless wisdom and ageless advice to an entirely new, younger audience through her Shine Bright Kids picture book series. Christy, her husband, and their twins live in Atlanta, Georgia.

~About the Illustrator~
Paige Billin-Frye lives with her husband in Washington, D.C., where she gardens and grows food in her city yard. She has illustrated numerous children’s books and works in a studio over a neighborhood hardware store. Coincidentally, Paige has amassed a collection of rubber duckies of all sizes across the years.

You can find the other titles of the Shine Bright Kids series HERE!

Now on to the Giveaway!
All you have to do is comment below about who you would like to win a copy of this book for. I will choose one winner with random.org.

~Review~ Jesus Sees Us Doll & Book

~I received this for my honest review, all opinions are 100% my own.

I have young boys and so there are not many dolls that for him to play with that aren't pink. I don't mind at all, but when I saw the Jesus Sees Us Doll and thought here was a doll my sons could play with and everyone would be happy with. Upon opening the Jesus Sees Us Doll & Book my two year old Nikolas grabbed him right up and started kissing him. He then grabbed the Jesus Sees Us Book and sat kissing his Jesus doll and reading for hours. I would say it was a hit!

At two years old he doesn't really understand Jesus yet. He see's us pray at dinner and hear's my husband and the older kids pray the rosary and he sits in church with us. But as he is just two so far he hasn't made a connection. So this is a great teaching tool for him. He loves books and this book has wonderful pictures in it. It teaches lessons and ask questions and then tells you the verse.

The doll itself is soft bodied with a hard head. My older kids knew right away it was mean't to be Jesus. My son Nikolas has been carrying it everywhere and sleeping with it. I know he will love this doll a long time.

Right now they are offering the doll and book for only $24.99. You can buy through the website HERE or directly on Amazon.

~Review~ The Rootlets Super Rootabilities ~2015 Parents Super Guide~

~I received this for my honest review, all opinions are 100% my own.

We are a pretty healthy family. We walk even when we could drive, we eat more veggies than candy. We try to teach our kids good, healthy eating habits. So I knew we would love cThe Rootlets: Super Rootabilities (Adventures of the Rootlets)

First let me say the quality of this book is exceptional. It has very thick heavy pages. This is a huge plus because they can not be ripped as easy as a normal paper page. The book is full of fun graphics and artwork. My 9 year old Thomas enjoyed the artwork especially.

He loves that super hero part and the funny character names. All the characters have funny veggie themed names. They also have a ton of personality that keeps up through the entire book. The story is much more in depth than I would of thought. Thomas has been totally enthralled in the book since he started reading it. It most certainly keeps you engaged. What's even better is because of the wonderful artwork I can sit and read this to my two year old Nikolas and he is just as interested. It's a great read for any age and a good lesson for friendship and a healthy life.

A synopsis of The Rootlets: Super Rootabilities (Adventures of the Rootlets)- The Rootlets are four fun-loving and adventurous kids, with veggie hair and healthy habits - whose lives, up until now, were undoubtedly ordinary. In their very first adventure, Brocc, Carrotina, Cornelius and Kaley overhear shocking news that's most definitely NOT ordinary, and that's sure to change life as they know it...forever! Could it be that the Rootlets are in fact superheroes with real super powers called Rootabilities? Using clues from an old legend book, The Rootlets get to work, determined to solve the biggest mystery of their lives. Be transported to the visually magnificent and magical plant-based world of Planet Planted - where The Rootlets begin their journey to save their world from potential evil that they never knew existed.

You can find The Rootlets: Super Rootabilities (Adventures of the Rootlets) on therootlets.com. You can also join The Rootlets Fan Club.

We received The Berenstain Bears' Please & Thank You Book to read and review. The Berenstain Bears' Please & Thank You Book was written by Mike Berenstain the son of the original writers Stan and Jan Berenstain. What a wonderful job he has done following in their footsteps.

The graphics are just like previous books, bright and cheerful. This is a good sized board book, but perfect for little hands. Thomas, who is 9 also really enjoyed reading it. This book teaches your children when to say Please, Thank you and Your Welcome. It's such a good lesson at any age. I know your kids will enjoy it as much as mine do.

~Review~ Bash and Lucy Fetch Jealousy Children's Book

~I received this for my honest review, all opinions are 100% my own~

What a delightful tale! Bash and Lucy Fetch Jealousy is about overcoming jealousy. Bash is very jealous that his dog is paying so much attention to other kids. This book teaches about how Bash overcome his jealousy and how your kids can too.

Bash and Lucy Fetch Jealousy also teaches about special needs kids, service dogs, and the joys of helping others. It just all around a feel good book. It teaches so much in 30+ pages than you could imagine. This is a true feel good story for almost any age.

What a cute book, and full of fun illustrations. It kept both my 2 and 9 year old captivated. I will have a pic of my son up soon reading Bash and Lucy Fetch Jealousy ...my camera decided to be mad at me today!

Would you like to get a copy of Bash and Lucy Fetch Jealousy for your kids? Go to http://www.bashandlucy.com/ They offer a couple books on audio books also.

~Review & Giveaway~ BabyLit

~I received this for my honest review, all opinions are 100% my own.~

My house is full of children, eight to be exact. Seven of my children love books. They will sit all day and read. We have more books than we do toys, and have since they were babies. So you can imagine my excitement when I heard about BabyLit. BabyLit are books for babies and small children inspired by the classics. You can find books like The Secret Garden, Huckleberry Finn, Jane Eyre, and Anna Karenina. Most of the books are board books , but they also have picture books and hardcovers. My children (and me and dad) love all of the classics so this was super exciting.

I chose Edgar Gets Ready for Bed, inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven.” as the book I wanted to read. My first book the post office destroyed. I was so sad because you can not believe how awesome it looked. The gracious people at BabyLit not only replaced it but also sent me Edgar and the Tattle-Tale Heart, Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart,”. Now that is awesome customer service. I had kids fighting over these books. From 16 years old down to my 2 year old and no I am not kidding. My kids think these are the coolest books they have ever seen and want to start a collection. I am "NOT" complaining.

Edgar Gets Ready for Bed is so funny. The book is all about how Edgar doesn't want to finish up dinnertime, clean up and bedtime. His answer to everything is NEVERMORE. He is very contrary and needs his mom to get him settled down. One of the reasons this book appeals to me is Edgar and my 2 year old Nikolas could be bosom buddies. They have the same grumpy attitude until the books come out at bedtime.

As you can see my 9 year old Thomas quickly latched onto Edgar and the Tattle-Tale Heart. Thomas is dyslexic so he struggles with reading. He is the only one of the 8 kids that doesn't love to read. As you can imagine I was thrilled to see him interested in a book. Both of these books are on the top of his favorite's list now. It also gave him a whole new understanding of his older sisters love for Edgar Allan Poe. In Edgar and the Tattle-Tale Heart, mischievous Edgar breaks a statue and you find out about the lesson that he learns.

I have not been as impressed with a children's book in a very long time. These are both wonderful books filled with stories from the classics they are based upon. They instill a love of learning from the youngest baby to even us grown adults. They illustrations are beautiful and not in the least bit overwhelming. I can not wait to get my hands on each and every one. The next one's on our list are Don Quixote and Dracula.

BabyLit also offers, Playsets, Totes, Buttons and little Characters based on the BabyLit Books. How would you like the chance to give a BabyLit book to your family? BabyLit has graciously offered to give one away to one of my readers. Good Luck!
